Services for Martha Swain Spratling, 67, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, with burial in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to the church building fund.
Mrs. Spratling died Thursday, Oct. 6, 1994. Born in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Perrow Erwin and Ella Martin Swain. She was a graduate of Converse College, where she also received a master's degree in English. She retired as a high school English teacher and was chairwoman of the English department of Keenan High School. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association of Columbia Country Club and First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, John Lee Spratling; a son, John Spratling Jr. of Columbia; daughters, Patricia Czerny of Worcester, Mass., and Elizabeth Slice of Columbia; a brother, Harold Swain of Spartanburg; sisters, Evelyn Swain of Columbia and Sarah Burnett of Spartanburg; and six grandchildren.
