Mary Emma Oberst Mellen, 94, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Owensboro, one of six children of Albert and Marie (Wittgen) Oberst. She married Francis Joseph (Pat) Mellen on June 22, 1940. They lived in Pennsylvania for 15 years, then moved to Henderson in 1956. Pat predeceased her in death February of 2012, after 71 happy years of marriage. Survivors include her six children, John Mellen (Michelle) of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Ann Kowalski (Jim) of Narragansett, R.I., Frank Mellen (Beverly Glascock) of Louisville, Margaret Gruetzemacher of Springfield, Mo., Patricia Mellen of Alexandria, Va., and Neil Mellen (Mavin Martin) of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Louisville.
