She was born in Topeka on March 7, 1926, the daughter of John and Barbara Schiffelbein Besler.
She was a 1944 graduate of Capitol Catholic High School. Mrs. Volz retired from the communications division of the Santa Fe Railway after 42 years of service. She was a former member of the Church of the Assumption and a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Topeka Sierra Club and the Santa Fe Old Timers.
She married Edwin Paul Volz on June 1, 1950, in Topeka. He preceded her in death April 6, 1985.
Survivors include two sons, Randal Volz of Topeka and the Rev. Jerry Volz of Emporia; three daughters, Janelle Burgardt of Topeka, Roxanne Silovsky of St. Paul and Sherry Fergel of Topeka; two sisters, Louise Schmidtlein of Topeka and Amelia Smith of Topeka; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and a brother, John "Pete" Besler.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Christ King Catholic Church in Topeka. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 4 p.m. Wednesday. A parish rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 7. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 5972 SW 25th, Topeka, 66614.
