Louis Edward Reimnitz was born December 21, 1919, to Paul and Lena Reimnitz. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Dimock. He grew up on a farm west of Ethan, and attended grade school at Tobin #11, Ethan. After 8th grade, he worked for several farmers in the area.
He entered the U.S. Army on January 9th, 1940 in the 147th Artillery, and served in the South Pacific, and the CBI (China, Burma, & India). He was honorably discharged on July 4th, 1945. He returned to Ethan and farmed with his dad and also did trucking. He married Doris Blume on June 8, 1947, and joined St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Armour. They farmed together on a farm east of Corsica and then moved to a farm south of Mt. Vernon in 1961. In 1976 they moved back to their first farm and built a house there. In July of 2004 they retired from farming and moved to a home in Mitchell. He entered Avera Brady in October of 2009.
He was active in Lutheran Brotherhood, held offices on the St. Peter Lutheran Church Council, and served on the boards of Corsica Co-op, Dimock Elevator, Douglas Farm Mutual, and Farmer's Union. He was an insurance adjuster for ten years, and a member of the DAV, American Legion, and the VFW.
He and Doris enjoyed boating and water skiing with their children and friends. They had a passion for dancing and traveled to many polka fests, other dances with friends, and celebrated several anniversaries with dances at the Moose Lodge in Mitchell. He loved playing cards with family and friends and spent alot of time visiting people in the nursing homes of the area towns.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Doris, and their six children: Lois Storm and husband, Glenn, Corsica, SD; Richard Reimnitz, Corsica, SD; Mavis Rath and husband, Dick, Bozeman, MT; Sherry Archer and husband, John, Sioux Falls, SD; Boyd Reimnitz and wife, Kay, Mitchell, SD; and Wayne Reimnitz, Mitchell, SD; his three sisters: Dorothy Stahl and Lydia Sigmund, Mitchell; Lena Bialas and husband, Ivan, Parkston; two sisters-in-law: Wilma Reimnitz and Anita Reimnitz, Armour. Louis was a wonderful grandfather to twenty-one grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law and one infant granddaughter.
