Cloette M. Schroeder, 78, of LeMars, IA, passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, IA, with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., both at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Cloette was born Feb. 5, 1934, at LeMars, IA, the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Nilles) Harpenau. Cloette was raised on the Harpenau farm north of Remsen. She graduated from Remsen St. Mary's High School in 1952.

On Jan. 31, 1956, she married Darrel Schroeder. The couple made their home on a farm near LeMars. She was dedicated to her husband for 56 years. Over the years she worked at various jobs, including telephone operator, Remsen Apparel, and Sacred Heart Hospital. She also volunteered at the Plymouth County Fair.

Cloette was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church of Oyens, IA, and church guild. She was a past 4H leader. She loved going to grandkids' ballgames, going out to eat, traveling, square dancing, quilting, sewing, gardening, scrapbooking, and making graduation quilts. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also very proud of her grand champion jewelry tree.

Survivors include her husband, Darrel of LeMars; five children, Tony (Shirley) Schroeder, Marge (Ken) Hansen, and Lori (Del) Kellen, all of LeMars, Rose (Kevin) Weiss of Vermillion, SD, and Anita (Russ) Hopp of George, IA; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence (Veronica) Harpenau, Jim (Mary) Harpenau, and Rich (Pauline) Harpenau, all of Remsen; three sisters, Rosemary (Denis) Schilmoeller of Granville, IA, Ann (Larry) Galles of Remsen, and Carol Harpenau of Omaha, NE; one brother-in-law, Ervin Ahlers of Remsen; three brothers-in-law, Lyle (Phyllis) Schroeder of Remsen, Mark (Jeanette) Schroeder of LeMars, and Bill (Janys) Schroeder of Kingsley, IA; three sisters-in-law, Lou (Jim) Gergeni of LeMars, and Doris (Bob) Gengler and Betty (Dick) Homan, both of Remsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sharon, in infancy; one granddaughter, Emily Schroeder; two sisters, Jeanette in infancy and JoAnn Ahlers; one brother, Paul Harpenau; and two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Schroeder as a young child and Marge Schroeder.

Casket bearers will be Andy, Ryan, and Nick Schroeder, Jenny Kayser, Justin and Derek Kellen, Zach Weiss, and Ethan Hopp.
