Irene was born May 12, 1917, to Louis Mongan and Edna (Peekenschneider) Bumann in Lake View. She was baptized on Oct. 28, 1917 at her grandmothers. She attended rural school and Linn Grove schools. She was confirmed on July 24, 1932, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aurelia.
She married Albert Lange on April 28, 1936, in Maryville, Mo. They farmed near Albert City and attended Zion Lutheran Church, rural Storm Lake, where she was a member of the ladies' aid.
He died July 27, 1953. She moved to Storm Lake and became a member of St John Lutheran Church, Storm Lake.
She married Leonard C. Johnson on July 26, 1961, in Dakota City, Neb. She worked for 12 years driving the Julius Cleaners route truck and then worked as a custodian in the Storm Lake school system retiring in 1979.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Albert Lange.
Survivors include her husband Leonard; two sons, LeRoy Lange, and wife Phyllis, Georgetown, Calif.; and Melvin Lange, and wife Cindy, Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Janice (Mrs. Harold) Redcnbaugh, Storm Lake; Valeria (Mrs. William) Tutt, Storm Lake; Judith (Mrs. M.James) Yager, Tualatin, Ore.; and Melinda (Richard) Cress, Bloomington, Minn.; one sister, Bernice (Mrs. Leo) Grau, Newell; one brother, Arlin Bumann, and wife, Vema, Los Altos, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and 10 step great grandchildren.
