Marcella was born on December 8, 1899 in Ferdinand to Frank and Philomina (Grewe) Metzger. Her siblings were Mary Cecelia, Charles, Vincent, Ella, Emma (Sr M Chrysostom), Rose, Ida, Augustina (Sr M Stanislaus), Louise, Irene, and Harold.
Sister M Modesta entered the convent of the Immaculate Conception in 1919. She made her First Profession 1921. Sister taught in the schools in Southern Indiana for 14 years. She graduated from the Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Yankton, S.D. , was a registered nurse and worked for 20 years in the maternity department of St Joseph's Hospital in Huntingburg. Sr M Modesta passed away May 13, 1996 in the monastery infirmary in Ferdinand.
