Emma Carolina was born on January 5, 1887 in Ferdinand to Frank and Philomina (Grewe) Metzger. Her siblings were Mary Cecilia, Charles, Vincent, Ella, Rose, Ida, Augustina (Sr Stanislaus), Louise, Irene, Marcella (Sr Modesta), and Harold. She grew up on the Metzger farm homestead and received her elementary education in Ferdinand.
Sister Chrysostom entered the Convent of Immaculate Conception May 7, 1909 and received the holy habit October 5, 1909, pronounced her Temporary Vows August 4, 1912 and her Final Vows August 8, 1918. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee in 1937 and the Golden in 1962.
After entering the convent Sister continued her education and taught throughout the years from 1911 to 1952 in various elementary schools of southern Indiana. Her last assignment was to St Raphael's at Dubois. Since 1953 Sister had been retired and in the infirmary.
Sister Chrysostom passed away on June 19, 1965 at the convent infirmary, Ferdinand.
