Crime Figure. He shot and killed architect Stanford White on the roof of Madison Square Garden on the evening of June 25, 1906. The murder was a result of Thaw's jealousy over his wife's (model and showgirl Evelyn Nesbit) relationship with White. After one hung jury, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. The motion pictures "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing" and "Ragtime" refer to this event.
