Margaret H. Breneman, 87, of Landis Homes Retirement Community, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, formerly of Strasburg, died Monday at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a brief illness.

An assistant principal at Locust Grove Mennonite School, Smoketown, she began her career teaching history and science. She retired in 1980 after 25 years.

Mrs. Breneman was a graduate of the former Eastern Mennonite High School and College of Harrisonburg, Va.

A member of New Providence Mennonite Church, she helped her husband when he was pastor of the church.

At Landis Homes, Mrs. Breneman led Bible study and was involved with the prison ministry outreach program.

She enjoyed reading and studying, and she supported Youth Evangelism Services.

Born in Clear Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Henry S. and Grace Eshleman Horst.

Her husband, the Rev. J. Harold Breneman, died in 1994.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Louise, wife of James C. Landis, of Ronks; Margaret Rose, wife of Curtis H. Zook, of Lancaster; and Miriam Grace, wife of J. Richard Brenneman, of Quarryville; three sons, H. Eugene, husband of Marie A. Smoker Breneman, of Willow Street; J. Richard, husband of J. Lorraine Eby Breneman, of Strasburg; and Gerald S., husband of Lisa J. Dickerson Breneman, of Pequea; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers; and five sisters.
