Gayle Sharon Anderson, 70, of Custer, SD, died on Friday, March 1, 2013, at her home, surrounded by family.
Gayle was born June 12, 1942, at the family home in Pierz, MN, to Vernon and Vernika (Vernie) Kainz. Growing up, Gayle and the family moved around because of the family business, and she graduated from High School in Little Falls, MN.
On June 12, 1961, she married LeRoy Anderson at Holy Cross Church in Harding, MN. The couple lived in Minnesota until 1965 when they moved to Custer SD.
Early in Gayle's life, she did the bookkeeping for Kainz Construction, the Custer Bowling League and for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Gayle was a starting member of Custer Piecemakers Quilting Guild and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Altar Society along with the Social Action Guild.
She was an avid bowler and a YABA coach. However, the ‘job' she loved most was being a stay-at-home mom to her three children.
Gayle was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Anyone who knew Gayle also knew of her passion and skill for quilting; many of us are honored to have one of her quilts.
She was an amazing cook and it didn't matter if you gave her a day's notice or an hour notice that she would have company for dinner – she was prepared.
She took a lot of pride as the Kainz/Anderson family historian and she bridged the gap between the generations.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, LeRoy Anderson of Custer; her son, Neil Anderson and his wife Sue of Belgrade, MT; her daughters, Brenda Anderson and her friend Greg Johnson of Custer; Nicole Ostenson and her husband, Jason of Edgemont, SD. Grandchildren include: Trevor Anderson, Megan Anderson, Trevor, Mason, JJ and Fallon Ostenson and great-grandchild, Kai Barr.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Denny and Richard Kainz, and nephews Scotty Meier and Travis Kainz.
Vigil and Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Deacon Pat Coy officiating. The funeral will be March 6, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's with Father Tim Hoag and Deacon Pat Coy officiating. Interment will be at the Custer Cemetery following the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Anderson, Megan Anderson, Trevor Ostenson, Mason Ostenson, Andy Kainz, Casey Ellerton, Brian Ellerton and Chris Kainz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in her memory to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church's kitchen renovation.
