Born on the family farm in Grove (Township) in Stearns County. MN; just north of the village of Meire Grove; Julitta Catherine was the fifth of eight children born to Joseph Henry & Marie Josephine (Nietfeld) Luetmer.

After getting her teaching degree from the College of Saint Benedict in Saint Joseph, MN; Julitta took the name Sister Nora when she entered the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict (OSB) in 1947.

From a citation found an the website for the Haehn Museum at Saint Benedict Monastery:

"During the 27 years of her professed life, Sister Nora served in leadership positions in the religious community and in the diocese. She taught mathematics and sciences at Saint Benedict's High School and at Cathedral High School in Saint Cloud (MN) and was principal at Cathedral and Saint Boniface High School in Cold Spring (MN).

"She was Director of Research & Planning at the monastery and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the College of Saint Benedict.

"In recognition of her contributions to education, she was given the Pacesetter Award of the Central Minnesota Education Research and Development Council as well as the Minnesota Catholic Education Association Presidential Award. She died in 1974 at the age of 53. A building of the East Apartments is named in her honor."

NOTE: initially built in November 1974; "in 1999 to 2000, the Luetmer Apartment underwent renovation. The plans for this reconstruction had been in the making for 5 years, with contributions from students for input and approval. The old Luetmer Apartment was completely demolished and a new one was created in its place. It holds 2 and 4 person apartments, space for 33 more students & up-to-date security. A new parking lot was also part of the renovations. The entire project cost just under $6 million and was completed by fall of 2001. The new apartment meets the needs of juniors and seniors who decide to stay on campus."
