Marie was the fifth of eight children {five daughters & three sons} born to Joseph Henry & Marie Josephine (Nietfeld) Luetmer.

She graduated from Cathedral High School in Saint Cloud and immediately entered the Nurses training program at Saint Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis.

In 1944, Marie entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps; serving in a field hospital in the battle of Okinawa in 1945. After her discharge in 1946, Marie spent her entire Nursing career at two hospitals: Saint Mary's and later Fairview South Hospitals in the Twin Cities, while residing in Minneapolis, Hopkins and Edina.

A loving daughter, sister & aunt; Marie passed away 24 January 2012 at Saint Therese Home in New Hope, MN at age 88.

From her obituary which appeared in the Melrose Beacon: "Survivors include sisters, Colette Gates of Brooklyn Center, Mrs. Robert (Mary Lou) Harris, St. Cloud; brothers Henry (Val) Luetmer of Sauk Centre, Al (Maureen) Luetmer of Grey Eagle, and Larry (JoAnn) Luetmer of Annandale, and brother-in-law Don O'Connor of Normal, Ill. Marie is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

"Marie loved to knit and craft, bake and decorate Christmas cookies with youngsters in the family, watch The Twins on TV, play cards, and spend quality time with family and her many friends.

"Marie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sr. Nora Luetmer (OSB), Rose O'Connor, Lidwina Stacy, and brothers-in-law Milton Stacy and John Gates."
