SPOKANE Joanna Hinnenkamp, a Colfax bookkeeper, died Wednesday at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Spokane of pneumonia. She was 78. She was born Oct. 18, 1913, at Uniontown to John and Josephine Heitstuman Hinnenkamp. She was raised in the Colfax area and graduated from Colfax High School in 1931. Hinnenkamp graduated from Kelsey-Baird School at Spokane. She then worked as a bookkeeper for various grain companies in Whitman County, Wash. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Colfax, a charter member of the Colfax Catholic Daughters and she served on several local and state boards for the club. She was a member of the Whitman Hospital Auxiliary and the Catholic Parish Council and was active in the May Festival. Survivors include a brother, Jim Hinnenkamp of Pullman; and three sisters, Phyllis Hinnenkamp and Mary Ann Sheer, both of Spokane, and Dorothy Hinnenkamp of Sacramento, Calif. Two brothers, Joe and Walt Hinnenkamp, and a sister, Alma Hinnenkamp, died previously. A vigil service will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of the Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Rev. Felix Lorge will officiate. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Whitman Hospital Auxiliary or to the Poor Clare Nuns, 4419 N. Hawthorne, Spokane, Wash., 99205.
