Leona E. Backhaus, 93, of Campbellsport died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006.

She was born in the town of Osceola on Feb. 11, 1913, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Plautz) Roehl, and on Dec. 23, 1933, she married Frank H. Backhaus at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dundee.

Leona was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church being baptized there on March 23, 1913 and confirmed there on Aug. 29, 1926.

She was also a former member of the Campbellsport Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her children, Eugene (Marilyn) and Janice (Earl) Morenzein, both of Kewaskum and Donald (Beverly) of Campbellsport; five grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Herbert Roehl of West Bend; her sister, Edna Kempf of West Bend; her sister-in-law, Marion Roehl of Fond du Lac; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on April 24, 1996; a grandson, Rand; a brother, Vilas; a brother-in-law, Edwin Kempf; and a sister-in-law, Betty Roehl.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dundee.

Rev. Richard Schliewe will officiate and burial will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac.

Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials are appreciated to Trinity Lutheran Church.
