He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 21, 1944, to Oct. 25, 1945. He was a sergeant with the US Army Service Battery 419 Armored Field Artillery Battalion and was in the European Theater in the Rhineland Ardennes-Central Europe-Northern France campaigns.
George married Emily E. Miller on Nov. 25, 1932, in Loveland. She died Dec. 31, 1975. He later married Lydia (Peppler) Schmer on Aug. 21, 1976.
He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the First Congregational Church. He lived in the Denver area until 1975, when he returned to Loveland.
He is survived by his wife (Lydia) and daughter (Betty L Keen, b 1934 d 2004); 3 brothers; a sister; step-son and step-daughter; and two step-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin George Lesser (b 1937, d 1977), and four brothers.
