Evelyn T. Schmidt, 78 of Sioux Falls, died Sunday January 12, 2014 at Good Samaritan Village. She was born March 11, 1935 the daughter of Elmer and Alvina Thomas.

She grew up in Holland, MN and graduated from Pipestone High School. She lived there until 1946 when she moved to Sioux Falls. She married Eugene Schmidt on March 24, 1956 in Holland, MN. He passed away on August 4, 1965.

Evelyn was employed at Northwestern Bell, later U.S. West as a telephone operator and administrative clerk for 39 plus years, retiring in December 1995.

She was a past member of St. James Lutheran Church, Holland, MN, and a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, Sioux Council Telephone Pioneers, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and she was the secretary for AAL Branch 3487.

She is survived by her two daughters: Jorgene (Richard) Williams and Deanne Schmidt of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Kimberly Williams, Nicole (Miguel) Olvera, Desirae Schmidt; four great grandchildren; one brother, Frank Thomas of Waldorf, MD; three sisters, Elener Mueller of Ogilvie, MN, Faye Dehler of Onamia, MN and Carol Courtney of Tyler, MN; and other family members, Martha and David Schoppe of Ames, IA.
