Dorothy E. Herzog, age 99 of Freeport, died peacefully September 26, 2005 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with the Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. Christian Mothers and Golden Years Senior Citizens will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Dorothy Herzog was born May 25, 1906 in New York. She came to Minnesota on the orphan train when she was three years old and was adopted by Henry and Anna (Hemker) Nienaber. She married Herman H. Herzog on October 16, 1922 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Dorothy had lived on the home place, her farm near Freeport, until her son and daughter-in-law took over the farm. She had different jobs retiring from Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids in 1971. Dorothy moved to a mobile home on the home farm. She was a staunch democrat.

Survivors include her children, Herbert Herzog of Aurora, Werner Herzog (Jane) of Mountain Iron, Arnold Herzog (Verla) of Melrose, and Raymond Herzog (Delores) of Ham Lake; daughter-in-law, Joyce Herzog of Mountain Iron; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman H. Herzog on Dec. 22, 1937; sons, Elmer and Reynold Herzog; daughters-in-law, Joyce, Genny and Myrtle Herzog, brothers and sister, Joe, Frank, Ben and Theresa Nienaber; one grandson, Steve Herzog and one great granddaughter, Mandy Herzog.

Casket bearers will be Keith, Daniel, David, Jerry, Alan, Larry, Mike and Jim Herzog. Cross bearer will be Stan Herzog. Scripture bearer and lector will be Sandra Griffeth. Honorary bearers will be Christian Mothers.
