Mrs. Peter Spahn Dies at Age of 78
Mrs. Peter Spahn, 78, a life-long resident of the Culbertson community, died at St. Catherine's hospital in McCook on Friday of last week, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held here at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Zion Evangelical U.B. church, with Rev. Eldo Kirkus officiating. Everett Kern sang "The Holy City" and "The Lord's Prayer," with Miss Kathy Kern serving as organist.
Pallbearers were Phillip Herman, Wallace Trimpey, Wilbert Wagner, Willard Rippen, Harlan Rippen and Harry Godtel. The Breland Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements, and burial was made in the Culbertson cemetery.
Mrs. Lydia Spahn, daughter of Conrad and Christina Wacker, was born at Culbertson, Neb., on August 4, 1885, and died in McCook, Neb., on Aug. 9, 1963, at the age of 78 years and 5 days.
On July 9, 1903, she was married to Peter Spahn. They were the parents of eight children, six of whom survive.
Mrs. Spahn was a member of Zion Evangelical U.B. church, of which her parents were charter members, and she was also a member of the Evangelical Woman's Missionary Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; one daughter, Leona; and one son, Richard.
Survivors include her children, Mrs. Myrtle Caine of Culbertson, Glen Spahn of New York City, N.Y., Mrs. Henrietta Rasmussen of Union Grove, Wis., Mrs. Marcella Barnes of Lincoln, Neb., Gerald Spahn of Grand Island, Neb., and Mrs. Bernice Mushlitz of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Fahrenbruch and Mrs. Oscar Huber of Culbertson; and six grandchildren.
