Antonia Skitsko was born on the 8th of August, 1859 in Ostrow,Galicia, Poland to the parents of Roman Skitsko and Anna Suchyj. In the early 1880's she married Martin Latka and they were blessed with 9 children: Nellie, Victoria, John, Carol, Andrew, Frank, Mary, Cathrena, and Joseph. On May 15, 1905 the whole family got aboard the "Lake Michigan" ship in Antwerp, Belgium and sailed for Montreal, Canada. They arrived on Canadian soil on May 28, 1905. The family quickly got settled into an area near Smoky Lake, Alberta and started their homesteads here.
