RETIRED MINSTER BUSINESS MAN, CARPENTER, DEAD

Bernard J. Feldman, one of Minster's oldest and best-known citizens, and early-day business man here and a retired cabinet maker, was claimed by death at his home at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The death of Mr. Feldman came after a long period of failing health. He had been ailing for two years from complications and was bedfast 10 days prior to the end. He would have celebrated his 81st birthday had he lived until June 30.

Born in Minster on June 30, 1860, he was a son of the late John and Anna Marie (Kramer) Feldman. He was married to Caroline Fortman in the St. Augustine church on Feb 9, 1884. Mr. and Mrs. Feldman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1934.

Left to mourn the death of a kind and loving husband and father are the widow and the following-named four children: Anthony Feldman of Dayton; Miss Rosa Feldman, who resides at home; Clemens Feldman of Minster; and Mrs. Josephine Boyce of Ft. Wayne, Ind. There are five grandchildren.

Three sons, Louis, William and Ferd Feldman, preceded their father in death.

One sister, Miss Mary Feldman, is living in Minster.

In 1889, as a young man, Mr. Feldman entered the furniture and undertaking business in Minster, in partnership with the late Joseph Knostman. Their place of business was located on South Main street. In 1898, Mr. Feldman sold his interests in the business to the late N.J. Hogenkamp, who in turn sold his holdings in the furniture store to Mr. Knostman, who has been conducting the business as sole owner for a number of years.

After his retirement from the business, Mr. Feldman followed is trade of cabinet maker and carpenter, until the time of his retirement some years ago He was one of the organizers, and was an active member for many years, of the Cataract Fire Co. here.

A lifelong Catholic, Mr. Feldman died fortified by the last sacrament of his faith.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the St. Augustine church with the Rev. Theodore Koenn, the pastor, in charge. Burial was made in the St. Augustine cemetery.
