Luella Smith, 94, of Saginaw, passed away at the Toni and Trish House in Auburn, Michigan on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011. She was born on July 19, 1917 in Gladwin, to Clair and LuRene (Coffel) Kinne.

She first married Camiel Codden in 1942. He predeceased her Nov. 24, 1950. She then she married Donald Smith on May 15, 1952. He predeceased her on May 20, 1991.

She was employed with the Federal Government as a secretary at the ASC office in Saginaw, and was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. After leaving to attend Bay City Business College, she was called home to help raise the children after the death of their mother. Later, she had a career with the Department of Agriculture, focusing on the farm programs.

Although she had no children of her own, there was frequently a young person living with her, some related, some not. She lived mostly in Michigan, but also resided in Minnesota and California. Her passions were spending time with her family, oil painting, needlework, crossword puzzles, and baking. Her specialty was fruit pies!
Even though she was a quiet person with a soft voice, her positive attitude and sense of humor made her a favorite with friends and family. Graciousness is the quality that best describes her.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret (Don) Welch of Midland; sisters-in-law, Addie Kinne of Midland, Maxine Kinne of Gladwin, Doris Kinne of Hemlock, and Arlene Fritz of Pigeon; step-daughter, Cheri Farstveet of Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brothers, Grover, Harold, William, and David; and three half-brothers, Cecil, Clyde and Clayton Kinne.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Gladwin. Pastor Chuck Keyworth will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Toni and Trish House, P.O. Box 125 Auburn, Michigan, 48611. Arrangements made by Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin.
