Melvin T.L.Witt was born June 8, 1936 to parents, Julius and Margaret(Leu)Witt at rural Bancroft, Nebraska. He attended the rural schools at Bancroft.Melvin married Ida Mae Paulsen December 2, 1962 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender, Nebraska. The couple farmed northwest of Bancroft until they moved northeast of Wakefield in 1972. They continued to farm until 1985 when Melvin became a full time driver for Ruan. He retired in April 2, 2010. Melvin was meticulous in the care of his surroundings and continued to care for his farm. Family life was important to him and he would be at events for children and grandchildren, making sure that he was at the birthday parties and school activities. He was active in neighborly events in the area. The family attended St. John's Lutheran Church where he served as lead usher for several years. Preceding him in death were a grand-daughter, Dayna Witt, and brothers; Elmer, Ervin and Eldon (Curly); and sister Elna Sila.
