Elmer John Witt was born on October 14, 1938, in rural West Point, Nebraska, to Julius and Margaret (Leu) Witt. Elmer was baptized at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender, Nebraska, and on April 14, 1935, he was confirmed, also at St. Mark's. Elmer attended District #62 Country School.
During World War II, Elmer served in the United States Army from April 21, 1941, until November 10, 1945. On June 8, 1946 Gloria Marcella Ziegler and Elmer were married in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri. The lived in St. Louis for five years and moved to Bancroft, Nebraska, in 1951. Elmer and Gloria farmed in Bancroft until moving to West Point, Nebraska, in 1965. At that time Elmer worked as a truck driver before retiring in 1985. Elmer and Gloria moved to Seward, Nebraska, in February of 1997.
Elmer passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 25, 1999, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 11 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ervin. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Witt, of Seward, NE; his sons and daughter-in-law, Alan Witt of Lincoln, NE, David & Kelly Witt, Portland, OR; his daughter and son-in-law, Patti & Tim Danbom of Seward, NE; his brothers and their wives, Eldin & Mylet Witt of Bancroft, NE, Melvin & Ida Mae Witt of Wakefield, NE, his sisters Orma Beckmann, Pender, NE, Norma Novak, Randolph, NE, Elna Sila, South Sioux City, NE; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
