Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26th from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus with graveside military honors conducted by the Columbus VFW Post #8090.
August was born on August 15, 1921 in Thunderhawk, SD to Frank and Mary (Bruha) Stanek.
He served his country in the military during WWII from 1941 until 1945. August was married to Phyllis Samplawski on June 15, 1946 in Chicago. He moved to Columbus in 1946 to start farming and retired in 1992.
August is survived by his wife Phyllis of Columbus; his children: Jim of Randolph, Gene (Tammy) of Lyndon Station, Merlin (Jacki) of Columbus and Cheryl of Madison; his six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister Helen and his brother, Theodore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jerome in 1958, four brothers and two sisters.
