Joseph A. Blocker, 83, Wetmore, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his daughter's home in Holton.

Mr. Blocker farmed near Wetmore and he had worked for 27 years for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. In Topeka. He served in the Army National Guard from 1941 to 1945.

He was born May 7, 1916 in St. Benedict, the son of Clement A. and Mary Levings Blocker. He lived most of his life in the Wetmore community.

Mr. Blocker was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the American Legion Post, both in Wetmore.

He married Thresa Glissman on Jan. 11, 1945, in Kelly. She died Sept. 8, 1994. A son, Rick Blocker, died Sept. 2, 1969.

Survivors include five daughters, Lynda Mehrtens, Auburn, Elizabeth J. Spiker, Wetmore, Mary Richardson, Holton, Jean Roth, Circleville, and Debbie Gafford, Overland Park; two sisters, Felicia Boeckmann, Holton, and Joan Rezac, Emmett; five brothers, Ed Blocker, Holton, Murt Blocker and Kevin Blocker, both of Topeka, James Blocker, Seattle, and Regis Blocker, Lucerne, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. Burial will be at Wetmore Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today and at 3 p.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Visitation will follow the rosary on both days.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anerican Cancer Society or to Midland Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.
