In the 1888 History of Bartholomew County is the following memo on Benjamin F. Kobbe:
Benjamin F. Kobbe, farmer and teacher, son of Henry and Caroline (Mellenbruck) Kobbe, was born in Bartholomew County, IN, on the 11th day of August 1850. His parents were natives of Prussia, Germany and came to the United States about the year 1837. They raised nine children, the subject of this biography being the youngest member of the family. Benjamin F. Kobbe was raised on a farm, and his early educational experience embraced the studies appertaining to the course usually prescribed by the usages of the common schools.
At the age of nineteen he began to teach in the public schools of his native county, and his success as an educator is fairly evinced by his frequent employment in the same locality. He has taught a part of each year, since engaging in the work, and in addition to his school experience, follows farming, in which he has been reasonably successful. Mr. Kobbe is an experienced teacher, a polished gentleman and one of Bartholomew County's representative citizens.
In politics, he is a staunch Democrat, and as such, was nominated in 1888, as his party's candidate for the State Legislature. He was married on the 12th day of December, 1875, to Miss Annie C.W. Alpies, daughter of Henry and Charlotte Alpies. To their union four children have been born, viz: Mary Magdalene, Karoline S., Bertha E. and Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Kobbe are members of the German Lutheran Church."
Benjamin died on 29 March 1930 and is buried next to his wife at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery at White Creek.
