Johann Heinrich (Henry) Kobbe was born in 1806 in Hanover, Germany and settled in Bartholomew County, Indiana in 1844 as a Democrat and Protestant, according to the History of Bartholomew County 1888 (a public tree lists birth as 04 Jan 1806.) According to son Benjamin's obituary, Henry arrived in the US in 1837. He soon married Caroline Muehlenbruch and had their first son Henry in Ohio.
Caroline & Henry had eight children, Henry (b. 1840 Ohio), Caroline (b. 1843 Ohio, married John Henry Speaker), John (b. 1844 Ohio, in Harris, MO at time of Caroline's death), Thomas J (b. 1848 in Indiana), Benjamin Franklin (b. 1850 in Bartholomew Co., IN), Elizabeth (b. 1853 Barth. Co., IN, married Charles Wehmeier), Ann Elisa (married name Kauffman, in Princeton, MO at time of Caroline's death) and one other child - name unknown (from St. John's records.)
On Oct. 28, 1843, Henry 'Cobby' purchased 40 acres in Bartholomew County, IN, then the surrounding 240 acres were purchased in 1845. By the 1860 census, Henry has $3000 in real estate and $900 personal estate.
Henry died on 19 Feb 1875 (5 days before his wife.) Henry's will was recorded on 6 Mar 1875 in Bartholomew Co., Indiana.
