John Stueven, 80, of Rt. 3 Grand Island, died early Wednesday at a local hospital. Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Larry Casper will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church or the coronary care unit at St. Francis Medical Center.
Mr. Stueven was born July 28, 1900, in Holstein, Germany, the son of John and Catherine Wenn Stueven. when he was 9, the family moved to the United States, locating on a farm in Merrick County near St. Libory. He married Hilda Schmiier (sic) on Jan. 3, 1934, in Grand Island. They farmed near Chapman for five years before moving to a farm east of Grand Island, where they have lived since. Mr. Stueven was active in farming until about a year ago. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and was affiliated with the Platt-Deutsche Society. He had served on the District 17 school board.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, Ivan and Dale, both of Grand Island; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. George (Rose) Kruse and Mrs. George (Mildred) Knuth, both of Grand Island, and Mrs. Walter (Erna) Boltz of Doniphan. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Herman, Carl, William and Otto, and two sisters, Freda Kruse and Lilly Sanders.
