WILLIAM AUGUST PFIFFNER
Funeral services for William August Pfiffner, 76, of 506 Reed St., who died Tuesday, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Ament, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. A parish rosary service is planned at O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Mr. Pfiffner was born Nov. 26, 1890, at Guttenberg, Ia., son of Gustav and Augusta Thamank Pfiffner. He married Kathryn Geib May 4, 1915, at St. Mary's church here. She died Dec. 10 1954.
He was employed as an auto mechanic and by the Iowa Public Service Company until his retirement many years ago. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Holy Name Society.
Surviving are two sons, Norbert J. Pfiffner of 521 E. Dale St., and William J., of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Barnes of Vinton, and Mrs. Rita Hauersperger of Brooklyn, Ia.; and 18 grandchildren.
There are also four sisters, Delphine Fender of 148 Linwood St., Mrs. Jack Jost and Mrs. Ed Hellwig, both of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Roger Schmitz of Altadena, Calif.
Surviving in addition are four brothers, Ray Pfiffner of Dewar, Joseph of Cedar Rapids, Cyril of Portland, Ore., and Roman of Torrence, Calif. He was preceded in death by parents and two brothers.
