Janet Lorene Killian, 74, of Shickshinny passed away at home, surrounded by family on Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Shickshinny on Feb. 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Norma (McDaniels) Carter, and attended Shickshinny High School. She was employed at RCA, Mountaintop, for many years and retired from Berwick Offray. She also baked cakes and made candies for many weddings, Easter egg hunts, parties and other occasions.
She was a lifetime member of Bible Baptist Church, Shickshinny, where she was a former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and more recently, baked for the nursing home and youth group ministries. Janet had a beautiful voice and loved singing. She sang at fairs and was the opening act for many big names; in 1991, she auditioned for the Grand Ole Opry. She also enjoyed taking pictures and cooking. “She could make the best homemade pizza from scratch, for an Irishman.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger Killian, on Feb. 5, 2012; son, Rodger “Tinker” Killian, in 1993; son-in-law, David Wojciechowicz; and nephew, Richard “Dick” Killian.
She will be greatly missed by her loving daughters: Sue Beaver and husband Brett, Mocanaqua; Kelly Sweet and husband Dallas, Hunlock Creek; Nikki Seigfried and husband Michael, Shickshinny; 15 grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters. She is also survived by sisters: Jane Gurns, Berwick; Ruthann Eyerley and husband Clayton, Shickshinny; brother, Thomas Carter, York Springs; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Heller Funeral Home, 633 E. Third St., Nescopeck, with the Rev. Daniel Potter officiating. Interment will follow in Sorber Cemetery, Reyburn. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 43 Furnace St., Shickshinny, PA 18655.
