Roy Arthur Herrmann, 86, McCook, died Tuesday (February 23, 1993) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born May 25, 1906 in Osceola, to Adam John and Hanna Christina (Timm) Herrmann.

He grew up on a farm south of Osceola where he graduated from high school in 1923. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, before going to Cincinnati, Ohio to the School of Mortuary Science. He graduated in April 1929 and received his Nebraska state license July 23, 1929. He began his funeral director career at Tecumseh.

On August 25, 1930 he married Leona Lenhart at Beatrice. They came to McCook in March 1931 from his hometown of Osceola and became partners with Vern Gregg. Leona died April 3, 1939.

He later was a partner in the Pade-Herrmann funeral home and furniture store, founding the Herrmann Funeral Home at its present Norris Avenue location in 1936. His former partner, Gene Pade, continued the Pade Furniture Co. separately. Herrmann, Dr. G.L. Montgomery and others were instrumental in founding Hillcrest Nursing Home.

He retired about 1974 and his son, John, now operates the funeral home.

On July 13, 1940 he married Ruth K. Lindsay at her family's home in Lodi, Wisconsin. She died March 3, 1970. He then married Marjorie E. Lamb on September 6, 1970 at McCook where he has spent his life.

He was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church; a 60-year member of McCook Masonic Lodge No. 135 AF&AM; all masonic bodies in McCook, Tehama Shrine of Hastings; Eureka Chapter No. 86, Order of Eastern Star; McCook Elks Club; and the Kiwanis Club.

Preceding him in death were his two wives; his parents; one brother, Wesley P. Herrmann on June 12, 1989; and one sister, Ruth (Phil) Jacoby on November 29, 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, one son and wife, John Arthur and Karla Herrmann, McCook; one daughter and husband, Helen and Dr. John Schreiber of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one brother and wife, Dr. Victor Herrmann and Jeanne of Palm Springs, California; two step-sons and wives, Dr. Richard Lamb and Carole of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Dr. Owen Lamb and Helen of Tucson, Arizona; two step-daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Oren Nelson of Salt lake City, and Anne Francesechini of Porta Luca, Italy; five grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in McCook, with the Rev. Robert Trask officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral. Inurnment will be in St. Alban's Collumbarium at a later date.

Friends may call and memorials may be given in his memory at the funeral home. Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
