Arthur A. Arens, 93, of Marion, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, where a Vigil service will begin at 4 p.m. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Monday, St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Dyersville.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Schlichte and special friend, Curt Burgin of Marion; three grandchildren, Keith (Erin) Schlichte, Karla (Eric Morse) Schlichte and Lisa (Dennis "Barry") Haire; and five great-grandchildren, Andy, Kelsy, Brittany, Olivia and Aidan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and eight siblings.

Arthur was born August 24, 1915, the son of William and Mary (Schermer) Arens, in Dyersville, Iowa. He married Matilda "Tillie" Manthey on Nov. 22, 1941, in Dyersville, Iowa.

Arthur farmed for many years in the Dyersville area and then moved to Marion in 1965 and sold real estate with his sister, Alma Henderson. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Cedar Rapids Realtor's Association.
