Verdun "Verd" France Fonnesbeck

Howell--Verdun France Fonnesbeck, 81, passed away after a short illness on Oct. 27, 1998, in Brigham City, Ut.

Verd bas born August 7, 1917, in Howell, Utah, to Christian and Marie Jorgensen Fonnesbeck. He was married to Leone Nelson in 1941. They divorced in 1993. "Verd" was a dry farmer in Howell, Utah, for all of his life. He was very active in the Democratic Party and at one time served as state Democratic Chairman for Box Elder County. He loved spending time with his friends and family. He was a lover of golf. He also wrote Cowboy Poetry.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many positions in the Howell Ward and Brigham City 6th and 11th Ward.

He is survived by four children, Arnold Bruce (Dixie), Springville, Or.; Vicki (Ted) Lauritzen, St. George; Gregory Fonnesbeck, Logan; Kristi Fonnesbeck, Salt Lake City; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest daughter Karla who died in 1969 and a grandson Ward Fonnesbeck.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31, 1998, 11 a.m. at the Howell LDS Ward Chapel, 16035 North 17400 West, Howell. Friends may call Friday Oct. 30th, from 6-8 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Sat., Oct. 31st from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment in the Brigham City Cemetery.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. John Markeson for his loving care and special friendship.

Verd used to tell me that because he was born around the same time as the Battle of Verdun in France during World War I, his parents named him in honor of this. When I could tell him that my maternal grandmother had actually survived that battle, he was tickled pink--me too.
