Noted Lawyer, Civic Worker, Dies in Logan
LOGAN--Leon Fonnesbeck, 71, former Logan city and Cache County attorney and former member of Utah State University board of Trustees, died of a lingering illness Wednesday evening at a Logan Hospital.
Mr. Fonnesbeck was born Feb. 2, 1886, in Logan, a son of Christian and Anna M. Jacobson Fonnesbeck. He married Jean Brown Dec. 10, 1915, in the Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was graduated from Utah State University in 1909. In 1912, he was graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with a doctor of juris-prudence degree.
He was Logan City attorney for 14 years, and had practiced law in Logan from 1912 until his illness.
An active member of the Church, he was a high priest in the Mt. Logan Eighth Ward, had been an instructor in various priesthood quorums, and had worked in other Church auxiliary organizations.
He was also a member of Logan Elks Lodge No. 1453.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Lynn (Marguerite) Kloepfer, Ontario, Calif.; Mrs. Ralph (Betty Jean) Otterstrom, LaJolla, Calif.; eight grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Lujah, New York City, N.Y.; Victor C., Herman and Eunice, all of Logan; Paul and Stanford, Howell, Box Elder County; Verdun, Brigham City; Baron, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Ray (Margrethe) McBride, Idaho Falls, and a foster mother, Mrs. Marie C. Fonnesbeck, Logan.
Services will be conducted Saturday noon at the Hall Mortuary chapel, Bishop Lamont Tueller, Logan Eighth Ward, officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11:15 until time of services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
