Age 93, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, at Evansville Manor. She was born to Frederick and Hazel Volker. Avis graduated from East High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Jerome Miller on Feb. 24, 1941. Avis was a stay at home mom that took care of multiple neighborhood children and her home was where all the children came to hang out, eat goulash, laugh, and talk over their problems. She never missed her children’s athletic events and loved watching birds, playing cards with her card club, was a great cook and entertained all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Crystal Lake. Avis and Jerry could be seen often riding their tandem bike around Crystal Lake Campground (rumor was that Jerry did all the pedaling and she was just along for the ride). She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; son-in-law, Mike Ring; sisters, Jeannette Angell and Muriel Mowrey; and brothers, Fritz Volker and Bruce Volker.
