LESTER H. BIPPUS age 85 of Cape Girardeau, MO; formerly of Butler, died Tuesday August 8, 2006 at Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born on February 22, 1921 in Chicot County, AR to Otto Franklin and Vera Poole Bippus. He married Frieda James on October 2, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, she preceded in death in August of 1974. He married Lillian Vanover in May of 1975 she preceded in death on August 16, 1989.

Lester served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, he was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He received a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon, Asiatic -Pacific Ribbon, Philippine-Liberation Ribbon and Navy Unit Commendation. He worked for Meyer Alberts Grocerer in Cape Girardeau for 13 years and a metal foundry in San Francisco. He was a member of the First Church of God.

Survivors include a daughter Janet (Coy) Willard of Cape Girardeau MO; a step-son Ronald (Kathy) Vanover of Sellersburg, IN; a stepdaughter Ruth (Doug) Meyer of West Unity, OH; a daughter-in-law Stella Bippus of Cape Girardeau, MO; two sisters Dorothy Schlessor of Burlingame, CA and Wanda Johnson of Auburn, IN; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grandson, five step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Frank Bippus, and a brother Otto Bippus.

Graveside services will be Friday at 11:00 AM at the Butler Cemetery, with Military Rites by the Butler American Legion. Local arrangements by H. E. Johnson & Son Funeral Home Butler.
