Jost Fischer, Jr. died Sunday evening at 10 o'clock of pneumonia after an illness of 9 days at the age of 29 years, 7 months and 9 days. He was born 28 Sep 1858 in Highland, IL and came to Tell City with his parents in 1860. The boy showed mental ability already in earliest youth and was one of the best pupils in the local Free Schools. After he had graduated from these, he worked a few years as a varnisher in the local furniture factories and later attended the normal school in Valparaiso, IN. After his return he funchioned for a time as clerk in the Cabinet Makers Union, then became an (sales) agent in the Chair Makers Union and around 6 years ago joined the business of Combs, Hartman and Co. whose director he was until the dissolution of the firm.
When he founded the Fischer and Hartman Chair Co. about 2 years ago, he took over the upper leadership of the business and thanks to his circumspection and never resting activities and energy the Chair Factory soon enjoyed a large and well-known clientele in the South and Southwest. As an enterprising and sensible businessman he always took a vigorous part in the relization of the new railroad and was untiring in his efforts in attaining the necessary subsidies and rights of way.
About 4 years ago he married Gertrude Steinauer, daughter of Aug. Steinauer of here, whom he now leaves besides a about 3 year old little daughter Antoinette. His earthly frame was buried Thursday morning to its final rest from St. Paul's Church to St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
