Rufus A. Steffen was born to August and Amelia Steffen on Feb. 24, 1893 on a farm near Britt, Ia. He grew to manhood on the same farm, and on Feb. 24, 1914 he was united in marriage to Ruth Millard. This union was blest with seven children, Sherril of Waukee, Irene Larson of Eagle Grove, Esther Bird of Hardy, Warren in the Air Corps at Long Beach, Calif., Blanche Hefley and Viola Neubauer of Waukee and Robert in the Army at Ft. Hood, Texas. Beside the children he is survived by his wife and 24 grandchildren and his aged mother. His father proceeded him in death in 1932. He lacked one day of being 62 years old at time of death. In July 1937 the family moved to Waukee which has since been their home.
