Mr. Philip Jackson, 93, of Newnan died June 22, 2008 at Newnan Hospital. A native of Heard County, he was born May 15 1915, to the late Jim and Effie Frances Newman Jackson. Philip was the fifth child of seven brothers. He moved to Newnan in 1935, graduating from Newnan High School in 1936. He married Ruby Kate Hendrix, August 31, 1938. They lived on First Avenue in Newnan for over 61 years. In 2003 they moved into Georgian Place where they lived for the remainder of their life. Philip served his community with 20 years of service with Newnan Fire Department, where he was a shift Captain for a majority of his employment. He also retired from the US Postal service after 32 years, also served as post master in Franklin, Georgia. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan for over 70 years and served as a deacon. He was also a founding member of McIntosh lodge#735 for over 64 years serving as Master of the lodge and was active in masonry until his death. He also served as High Priest of the 4th RAM District in 1988. He is survived by his youngest brother Col. Joe M. Jackson of Kent Washington. He is also survived by four children Philip Lee (Katie) Jackson of Newnan, Georgia., James (Matt) M. (Krista) Jackson of Ft. Walton Beach Florida , Marie (Ken) Schall of Fayetteville, Georgia and Cathy (Joe) Powell of Newnan, Georgia. H e has 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The service will be held at First Baptist Church (old sanctuary) of Newnan on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 10 AM with Rev. Jimmy Patterson and Rev. Jerry Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.
