John R. Stremel. Wednesday morning July, 13, 1938 at 9 a.m. an impressive funeral was held at the St. Mary’s Church, Loretto, Kansas.

John R. Stremel, an early pioneer of Rush County was buried by his three nephews, Fr. Peter Stremel of Sitka, Fr. Alex Stremel of Fowler and Fr. Adolph Stremel of Yates Center. Fr. Arnold Weller the pastor of the Loretto parish preached the funeral sermon. Fr. Green from Caldwell assisted in the sanctuary.

John R. Stremel ws born in Kamingo Russia on March 20, 1872. The oldest son of the deceased Mr. and Mrs. Anton Stremel.

At the age of 5 he migrated with his parents to Rush County, Kansas. His entire life was spent in Rush County, after his arrival from Russia. One year he spent working in the Railroad Shops at Osawatomie, Kansas.

John Stremel was the oldest son of a large family; four brothers still living, Adam and Anton of Loretto, Andrew of Hutchinson, Leo of Dighton, and two sisters Mrs. Katie Rome, Moreland, Mrs. Christine Weaver of Brighton, Colo.

Three brothers preceded him in death, Jacob of Loretto, Peter and Joseph of Pfeifer, and three sisters, Anna, Susanna, and Julia.

John R. Stremel was hale and hearty till about a year before his death. At all times he was interested in the welfare of the community he lived in. He was one of the early pioneers and settlers of the Loretto community. When the Loretto parish was started he was one of the committee men to get the parish started.

He died on Monday afternoon July 11, 1938.

He leaves to mourn his departure his dear wife Susanna Haberkorn who he married on Feb. 14, 1896 at Pfeifer, Kans.

To this union was born twelve children, two preceded him in death, Helen and Edward.

Those surviving are John, Lawrence, Edward, Fred and Richard of Loretto, Jacob of Greenbrush, Kans., Anna Lisbon of Lyons, Margaret Murnane of Greenbush, Christine Hejnay of Olmitz, and Mary Kaber of Olmitz.

A large crowd of relatives and friends were present for the impressive funeral service. All his living brothers and sisters were present with the exception... [End of Copy].
