Clemens Honkomp, 600 North Prospect avenue, for more than fifty years a resident of Sedalia, died at 3:40 o'clock Saturday morning at the General hospital. He had been ill and a patient there for the past two weeks and his son, Clemens Honkomp, Jr., of Kansas City, had been at his bedside. Mrs. Honkomp and children arrived Friday.

Mr. Honkomp was born in Germany in 1863, and came to America in 1866 with his parents, Clemens and Elizabeth Honkomp. The family located at Covington, Ky., where Mrs. Honkomp died.

Mr. Honkomp first came to Sedalia in 1876 and worked for three years at his trade of cigar maker. In 1879 he opened a cigar factory on his own account on East Main street, at that time the main thoroughfare of the business district.

He later moved to Ohio street, then to 119 East Third street. He employed four men in his factory and had a reputation for putting forth an excellent brand of cigars, and for using honest methods in transacting business. He retired and the past few years had not been actively engaged in any business.

He was first married in 1878 to Catherine O'Brien, who died in 1881, leaving the one son, Clemens, Jr., who is now an income tax inspector for the United States government. Mr. Honkomp's second marriage took place in 1888, with Anna Glahu, of Boonville, who died some years ago.

The deceased was one of Sedalia's well known and most highly respected men. Straightforward in all his dealings, he held an enviable reputation among his business associates. He was affiliated with the democratic party and for two years was a member of the city council, and from 1902 to 1904 served as county treasurer, with credit to himself and the people of the county. He also served two years as city treasurer.

The body was taken to McLaughlin's chapel where it will be until 9 o'clock Monday morning, when funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart church, the pastor, the Rev. Father Christian Daniel to officiate. Pall bearers will be: Charles P. Keck, Thomas Buckley, James T. Montgomery, Robert Swearingen, Clyde M. Brown and Florence T. Mulcahey. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic cemetery. - Sedalia Democrat - Sunday, October 26, 1930 pg.2
