Walter H. Wittrock, 94, of Halbur, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen. Mass servers will be Carter and Caden Wittrock. Music will be by Sue Feilmeier and the St. Augustine Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Jake Wittrock. Gift Bearers will be daughters, Judy Wolf and Peg Sanders. Eucharistic Minister will be Sandy Wittrock. Casket Bearers will be sons: Marvin Wittrock, Steven Wittrock, David Wittrock, Kevin Wittrock, Joel Wittrock, Nick Wittock, and Walter Jr. "Chip" Wittrock. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors conducted by the Arcadia American Legion.
Friends may call at St. Augustine Church in Halbur after 4 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday until time of the funeral mass.

Walter Henry was born on February 24, 1920 at Carroll, Iowa the son of August and Ella (Drees) Wittrock. He was baptized, confirmed and attended school in Halbur. Walter enlisted in the United States Navy during W.W. II and served six years as Gunner's Mate 1st Class aboard a LST. While in the Navy most of his duty was in the Pacific and he was honorably discharged in January 1947. On February 11, 1947, in a double wedding with Norbert and Bertilla (Wittrock) Rohe, he was married to LaVerne Meyer with Fr. Kramer officiating. The couple made their home on a farm near Halbur, where they raised their family and were also engaged in agriculture.
In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golfing. Walt also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and his 1949 John Deere tractor. Walt's greatest joy was his entire family. He was so proud of all of them and honored each year as his family gathered for their annual Father's Day family celebration. Walt was a member of the parish Holy Name Society, parish choir, Arcadia American Legion where he served as past commander, and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur.
Walt is survived by his wife, LaVerne; his children: Marvin (Barb), Steven (Cheryl), Judy, Dave (Lynn), Kevin (Sandy), Joel (Jean), Peg (Dave), Nick (Donna), and Walter Jr. "Chip" (Renee); 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred; one brother, Earl (Vernell); his sister-in-law, Darlene; his brother-in-law, John; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
