Mildred was born on April 26, 1922, to August and Ella (Drees) Wittrock in Halbur, IA. She was baptized on April 27, 1922, and attended school in Halbur up until the eighth grade.
Mildred met the love of her life, Edward A. Sturm and waited four years for his return home from the service to be united in marriage. They were married on January 22, 1946 at St. Augustine Church in Halbur, IA and were blessed with seven children: Donald, Janet, JoAnn, Sherrie, Susie, Connie, and Doug. The couple farmed near Templeton and Coon Rapids and in 1951 purchased their farm northwest of Auburn, IA.
Mildred volunteered at New Hope for 20 years. She enjoyed dancing and playing cards. In her free time she enjoyed quilting and joined the quilters at Holy Spirit and then joined the quilters at St. Joseph’s. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Mildred’s memory are her children: Donald Sturm and his wife Kathleen of Auburn, IA, Janet Steinkamp and her husband Dick of Carroll, IA, Sherrie Wilson and her husband Steve of Lake View, IA, Susie Frank and her husband Mike of Lake View, IA, Connie Neumayer and her husband Rodney of Centennial, CO, and Doug Sturm of Auburn, IA; 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; many extended family members and friends.
