NEW PHILADELPHIA – Shelby native Dr. John F. Sifferlin, 45, of Route 2, New Philadelphia, died at 12:18 a.m. Saturday in Knox County community Hospital, Mount Vernon, from an apparent heart attack suffered while coon hunting.

Morn Oct. 21, 1940 in Shelby, he was the son of Cornelia Maag Sifferlin of Shelby and the late Francis Sifferlin.

He was a 1958 graduate of Shelby High School and 1966 graduate of Ohio State School of Veterinary Medicine.

He owned and operated Sifferlin Animal Clinic in Dover.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia, the American Veterinary Medical Association, Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce, Tuscarawas VFW, and Tuscarawas Valley Medical Association.

He was also a member of Tuscaraway County Coon Hunters and Salt Fork Coon Hunters associations.

Survivors include his wife, Sue E. (Nothacker) Sifferlin whom he married July 15, 1961; two daughters, Sally L. and Stephanie A. and one son, Steve L., all at home; two sisters Sister Bernedette O.S.F. of Joliett, Ill. And Mrs. Byron (Rosemary) Bricker of Florida; and three brothers, Carl and Roy of Shelby and Ray of Columbiana.

Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia.
