John P. Kisner, 84, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Monday morning January 25, 2016 at Oelwein Healthcare Center in Oelwein.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 29, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with Rev. James Brokman officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary: 5:30 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Parish Scripture Service: 6:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. American Legion Service: 6:30 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established for Sacred Heart Catholic Church. John Peter Kisner was born on April 18, 1931 in Oelwein, Iowa the son of Peter Frank & Mabel (Hensch) Kisner. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in the Class of 1949. John worked at Kinsmen’s Greenhouse in Oelwein for 15 years. He then served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War in Germany from 1951 to 1954. John was united in marriage to Flora Mae Asmus on February 20, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. John worked at Lagerstrom Plumbing and Heating from 1962 until he retired in 1992. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein Knight of Columbus 4th Degree and the Oelwein American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and making crafts.

John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years: Flora Mae Kisner of Oelwein; Son: Tom (Sandy) Kisner of Oelwein; 2 Granddaughters: Amy Kisner of Oelwein & Ann Kisner of Oelwein; 2 Great Grandsons: Duane Hamby and R.J. Kisner; 2 Brothers: Floyd (Marcheta) Kisner of Rockford, Illinois & Lawrence (Lee) Kisner of Hendersonville, North Carolina; 3 Sisters: Beverly Dvorak of Cedar Rapids, Dorothy (Dick) Lehmkuhl of DeWitt & Regina (Bob) Bergman of Maynard; Sister-in-law: Evelyn Kisner of Marion and Brother-in-law: Paul Egger of Cedar Rapids.

John was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Shirley Egger, brother: Dale and 2 brothers-in-law: Richard Bartels and Bob Dvorak.
