John A. Canan, respected citizen of Franklin, died at 9 pm yesterday, Nov. 17, at the age of 75. In former years he lived here, respected proprietor of the National Hotel. He afterward lived in Coal City, Venango County, then moved back to Franklin. He was born in Huntingdon County, PA, Aug. 25, 1815, 5th child of James and Maria Canan.
On Sep. 25, 1844, he married Mary J. McKarns, and she survives, with 5 children, Emma, at home, Mrs. J. K. Shultz of Coal City, Mrs. E. Griffith of Parker, Mrs. J. C. Buchanan of Oil City, and Charles J. of Franklin. He was the brother of R. J. Canan, former postmaster of Franklin, and of Mrs. Georg W. Parker of Sugarcreek Township.
Services will be at his home on Elbow Street, second door above Gazelle House, at 2 pm tomorrow (Wednesday). The procession will start for the cemetery ay 2:30.
