Mr. Frederick Laber, 68, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord, August 1, 2003 after a short illness. He was born May 25, 1935 in Port Huron to the late Henry and Katherine Laber, who came to the United States from Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution. Their German ancestors had immigrated to Russia during the reign of Catherine the Great. He married his childhood sweetheart and soul mate, Patricia G. Gougeon on Sept. 22, 1956 in Port Huron.

Mr. Laber managed the Military Street Fruit Market from 1949 until 1987, and was a Realtor in the Port Huron area since 1984. He was a Past President of the Board of Realtors, and was named outstanding Realtor of the year in 1998. He was a life long member of St. John's United Church of Christ and a former President of the church council. He was a member of the New Horizons Band.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three children, Mr. and Mrs. Ricky (Brenda) Laber of Grand Ledge, Mr. and Mrs. Dean (Sharyl "Till") Lewandowski of Harrison and Michael Laber and Scott Long of Port Huron; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry "Hank" (Mary Ann) Laber; four sisters, Mr. and Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Arkills, Rose Gulley, Mary Janke and Mr. and Mrs. Rodney (Katie) Grahn; a sister-in-law, Delores Laber; and many nieces and nephews.

A brother, David, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Arthur Habermehl will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
