June 2, 1931 - May 9, 2016

Lloyd S. Hoffmann, 84, of Turtle Lake died Monday, May 9, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire, WI. He was born June 2, 1931 in Turtle Lake, WI to Walter and Pearl (Grafing) Hoffmann. Lloyd attended school in Turtle Lake and graduated in 1950 from Turtle Lake High School.

On June 26, 1954, he was married in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Almena to Patricia Blechinger. Together they raised 5 daughters, Kay, Sharon, Cynthia, Carol and Jacalyn, all of which survived him. Lloyd had 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He loved his family and especially enjoyed the younger ones now. Lloyd always had a nickname for all of them and recognized them by these names better than by their given names lately. Even Pat had a nickname, "the flower".

After high school he worked in St. Paul for a couple years and then purchased a service station in Corktown, Almena. He operated this for 4 years then worked for 2 years for Mathisen Tire of Rice Lake. His next move was to purchase the Amoco Station in Turtle Lake from Merle Metsker. Later he added the J & H Auto Parts Store unto it from which he retired from in 1986.

Community meant very much to him. He served on the Turtle Lake School Board, Village Board, Turtle Lake Fire Dept., Barron County Housing Development, Turtle Lake Housing and was instrumental in getting Hartzell Manufacturing to Turtle Lake.

Lloyd was a 56 year member of the Turtle Lake Lions Club and was very active in many of their projects, especially if it involved building something like the Lions Club trailer or just remodeling something. He always had an ample supply of nuts and bolts in his shop. If you couldn't find it in his "stash", even when he had a hard time remembering things he usually could still remember where a certain item was.

Lloyd was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship as well as a Birch Strum Fellowship from the Lions Club. He and Pat worked with the Lions Mission to Mexico for many years.

Lloyd enjoyed hunting and fishing. He made several trips to Montana and Colorado hunting and Canada fishing with his friends as well as to the Dakotas pheasant hunting. He was also a long time member of the Hotel coffee table.

Lloyd and Pat enjoyed many trips both abroad and in the states. The highlight of these trips was the cruise, RV camping trips and halibut fishing in Alaska with friends.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Pat of Turtle Lake; daughters, Kay Cook of Turtle Lake, Sharon Nordquist of Turtle Lake, Cynthia Naessen of Comstock, Carol (Lester) Peetz of Clayon and Jacalyn Hoffmann of Cedar Lake, IN; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother, Gordon (Lynda) Hoffmann of Stillwater, MN; sister, Joyce (Bernard) Moravitz of Turtle Lake and sister-in-law, Joaune Hoffman of Turtle Lake along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death his parents, great grandson, Josiah Lloyd Cook, brother, Vernon Hoffman, sister, Lois Popoe, son-in-law, Douglas Nordquist, brother-in-law, Bernard Movavitz and nephew, Steven Hoffman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, May 13, 2016 at St Ann Catholic Church, Turtle Lake, WI with Father Tom Thompson officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Turtle Lake, WI. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Craig Cook, Chris Cook, Brian Nordquist, Eric Nordquist, Joshua Naessen and Brandon Peetz. Honorary pallbearer is Gary Solum. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday at Skinner Funeral Home, Cumberland and for one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wisconsin Lion's Camp.
