Vernon D. Hoffman, 83, of Turtle Lake died Friday, November 5, 2010 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Prairie Farm. He was born March 7, 1927 in Turtle Lake, WI to Walter and Pearl (Grafing) Hoffmann. He attended Turtle Lake schools, and farmed with his parents for several years. Vern worked for 25 years for Turtle Lake Cooperative Creamery, later known as AMPI, where he was a butter maker and later manager of the Feed Mill. He won several state awards for his butter making. In addition, Vern owned and operated a school bus for about 30 years; hauled milk and served on the Turtle Lake Fire Department for 25 years.

He married Joaune Rivard on February 16, 1957. They lived in and raised their family in Turtle Lake.

Vern was involved in baseball, fast pitch softball and played in the Barron County League for several years; he was also an avid bowler. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in high school sports.

He is survived by his wife, Joaune of Turtle Lake; 2 sons, Jeff (Diane) Hoffman of Turtle Lake and Kevin (Sandy) Hoffman of Almena; 3 daughters, Deborah (Victor) Yeager of Boyd, WI, Roxane (Tom) Lambrecht of Almena, Lori (Tim) Moriak of Turtle Lake and 1 daughter-in-law Kristin Hoffman of Turtle Lake; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lloyd (Patricia) Hoffmann of Turtle Lake and Gordon (Lynda) Hoffmann of Stillwater, MN; 1 sister, Joyce (Bernard) Moravitz of Turtle Lake and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Steven and James Hoffman and 1 sister Lois Popoe.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Parkview United Methodist Church, Turtle Lake, WI with Rev. Grace Baldridge officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Turtle Lake, WI. Pallbearers are Gregory Lambrecht, Justin Hoffman, Bryan Yeager, Collin Hoffman and Nathan Roemhild. Honorary pallbearers are Angela Zbaracki, Kristen Moen, Amanda Kohler, Nicole Woehrmann, Tamela Yeager, Jamie Hoffman, Tiffany Moriak, Kari Yeager, Samantha Nelson, Mindy Moriak, Amber Roemhild and Abby Wellens. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Monday at the Skinner Funeral Home, Turtle Lake and one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the church.
